On Nov. 12, same-sex couples will be able to start marrying in Connecticut. At 9:15 that morning, the Superior Court is expected to enter its final judgment in the case of Kerrigan et al v. Commissioner of Public Health et al, after which couples can pick up marriage license forms at town and city clerk’s offices. The Gay & Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), the Boston-based legal group that sued the state on behalf of the plaintiff couples, are holding a series of marriage workshops across the state to teach the legal implications of the decision and how it will affect taxes and health care. According to GLAD, civil unions are still valid and those in civil unions may marry the person with whom they have the union.
